Hal and Ava Schaeffer
Campus Staff

Hal and Ava Schaeffer live in St. Charles, MO near Lindenwood University.
Hal works for the Missouri Division of Social Services, Family Support Division. Prior to this,
he served in the Christian book industry for many years. He enjoys research and problem-solving
and spending time one-on-one with friends. In
his spare time, Hal loves to turn up the soil and nurture green things. He holds a Master of
Divinity degree from Covenant Theological Seminary.
Ava earned a degree in Piano Pedagogy from
The University of Central Missouri. Before her homeschooling years, she served as a lay counselor and director of a local Crisis Pregnancy Center.
As a musician, Ava has employed music as an avenue to interact with people of all ages—preschool to adult—in both performance and teaching venues. Ava coordinates childcare for women’s ministries at her church, and leads ISI ministry at Lindenwood University.
Having relationships with people from diverse backgrounds has influenced their daughters to advocate for and befriend internationals during their college years, study and work abroad, and volunteer as ESL instructors with immigrant populations.
Hal and Ava are passionate about international student outreach; welcoming new found friends and helping them navigate entry into American culture. The Schaeffers host weekly small group discussions and enjoy exploring difficult life questions with a broad spectrum of people.
